Google Bard vs. Bing —What’s Happening?

March 4, 2023

The field of artificial intelligence has been rapidly advancing in recent years, with major tech giants like Google and Bing at the forefront of these developments. Google's Bard, for instance, is a revolutionary AI tool that considers a machine's behavior and interaction with humans, not just its speed and functionality. Meanwhile, Bing has been using AI to enhance its search engine, making it more efficient and customized for users. These advancements have the potential to improve productivity and efficiency in a variety of industries, from healthcare to automation. However, they also raise concerns about job loss and the potential for AI to be used to manipulate and deceive humans.

Evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

There is obviously more to AI than just pretty pictures and homework cheat codes. Artificial Intelligence (AI) breakthroughs in recent years have changed the way we engage with technology. AI is omnipresent, from self-driving vehicles to voice assistants like Siri and Alexa. Google's new AI tool, "Bard," and Bing's inclusion of AI in their search engine are two recent advancements that have gotten a lot of attention in the IT industry. This is what today’s topic boils down to Google vs Bing (Microsoft).

Google vs. Bing

Google's Bard (Behavior-Augmented Robotic Design) is an AI tool that assists engineers and designers in the creation and optimization of machines. Unlike typical AI technologies that only optimize speed, Bard considers the machine's behavior and how it interacts with people. This is a big advancement because it enables engineers to construct machines that not only function well but also interact naturally and intuitively with humans.

Bard's success stems from its use of "reward functions," which allow developers to describe what they desire the machine to do as well as the parameters within which it should work. This guarantees that the machine performs in a desirable and predictable manner. Bard has already been used to create a laundry-folding robot arm, and it is likely to have many more uses in the future. However, during google’s advertisement for BARD, things took a turn quickly. In the commercial, Bard is asked, "What new findings from the James Webb Space Telescope can I tell my 9-year-old about?" Bard rattles up two accurate responses immediately. Yet, its final response was incorrect. According to Bard, the telescope captured the first images of a planet outside our solar system. Well, according to NASA’s records, it's otherwise. Not only did Google become a laughing stock, their stock, in fact, even plummeted.

Bing, on the other hand, has been incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into its search engine in order to give consumers a more customized and efficient search experience. One way Bing accomplishes this is through its AI-powered "intelligent responses." These responses are intended to give consumers rapid and accurate information without requiring them to visit a website. If a user searches for the weather in their city, Bing's intelligent response will provide the current weather and forecast without requiring the user to visit a weather website. Bing also makes use of AI in its "intelligent image search." This feature allows users to search for photographs by using natural language to describe what they are looking for. The query is subsequently analyzed by Bing's AI, which provides related photos. This is especially helpful for folks who are having difficulty finding the correct keywords to explain what they are looking for.

What does this mean for the future?

Bing AI and Google AI are important advancements in the field of Artificial Intelligence, with the potential to affect our future in a variety of ways.

To begin with, these AI technologies have the potential to significantly improve our efficiency and production. We can acquire information and accomplish tasks more quickly and correctly by incorporating AI into our search engines. This might have far-reaching consequences in fields such as healthcare, where timely access to reliable information can make a major difference in patient outcomes.

Second, the advancement of AI tools like Bard may result in the production of more advanced and intuitive robots. This might result in considerable breakthroughs in domains such as robotics and automation, which could have a huge economic effect.

And as always, there are concerns

While both Bard and Bing's AI integration are significant advances in the realm of artificial intelligence, they also pose certain concerns. One source of concern is the possibility of automated tools replacing human employees. As AI advances, it is feasible that machines may be able to do functions formerly performed by people. This may result in job losses and economic instability.

Another concern is the possibility of AI being used to manipulate and deceive humans. As AI advances, it may be able to generate convincingly phony photos, videos, and text. This might be used to disseminate disinformation and propaganda, which could have major societal effects.

As more and more look into Bing and Google, many are also left dissatisfied. Some even say it's a train wreck waiting to happen. Regardless of what it may be as of now, this is all but a monumental occasion. Perhaps the tech field is witnessing another race to the moon in the form of AI.
